FI: So Why Zod?

DB: ‘If they replay something enough on the movie channels it is bound to become, repetitive. However with Superman II this was not the case.’

FI: What ?

DB: ‘Superman II has a character named General Dru-Zod, who attackes the man of steel. The character came to earth to rule it and the only thing standing in his way...Superman. The one who would not Kneel before him..'

More information on building in this medium can be found here.

The first step is to have an idea, draw it out on paper. Once you have that a normal wood board can be used for the base. I found many shapes at AC Moore. I drilled two holes in it, that are the width of the pipe I use for the skeletal structure (not pictured).

Here is a list of the steps that followed.

1: Used the sketch as a guide, eventually I drifted away from the sketch as a reference.
2: Built the body up around the skeletal system using foil.
3: Began layering the foil with Super Sculpey.
4: Started the details like abdominal area, and baggy pant legs.
5: Continued the detail on the legs, boots, chest, cloth, belt.

6: Added ribbed sleve details to Zod's arms.
7: Scultped his face, loosely based on Terrence Stamp, but bigger as is the entire body.
8: Stuck him in the oven. This oven is a gas oven, it started to burn the edges very fast.
9: After it cooled, tried a new technique with the wood base, a high gloss finish.
10: Started painting with shades of black acrylics, and flesh tints.

Zod also has a nice little removable top hat. He is a general after all. If you comment on it, you might die.
